Project Description

Brooklyn Motors Plc

About the company

In 1935, Mr W T Hill founded the Brooklyn Group from a wooden garage that he built himself in Radford, Worcestershire. By 1956 the Company had secured the Retail Dealer franchise for Ford, operating from new premises in Inkberrow. In 1974, Ford Motor Company lost its representation in Redditch, Worcestershire and after negotiations with the manufacturer, Brooklyn achieved Main Dealer status.

Due to the continued expansion of the business, a larger development was required and in 1979 purpose built facilities were opened at Battens Drive, Redditch. This site is now the Head Office. The Company now represents Ford, Citroen, Skoda, Mazda and Toyota marques, operating in the area of Worcestershire and Warwickshire. Brooklyn now offers full Sales and After Sales facilities including Servicing, Accident Repair, Daily Rental etc.

  • Brooklyn Motors used the DARTS Fleet Management System. The software had been installed for over 10 years and had not undergone any major changes in that time. Ford, however, had made changes to their reporting requirements which have required the 8 digit account number to be extended beyond its original use.
  • Brooklyn Motors had also acquired retailers over time and they brought their own Integration inconsistencies. Fortunately DARTS had a reporting code structure which allowed each account to be correctly mapped to its correct place in the Monthly Management reports. But the hardcopy management reports is the beginning and the end of the story for DARTS financial reporting.
  • Any other reports were produced at the summary level in Excel often by rekeying data. They wanted a more flexible approach to reporting with the ability to go to a much lower level of understanding of numbers than had ever been possible with DARTS.

The Result

  • CFMS Consultants built a cube structure to house the data and a series of mapping cubes which ensured that the data was correctly split down into its constituent parts.
  • The database (cube structures) contain two cubes; one to hold the dealer sales data and costs to Gross Profit and other to hold the overheads down to profit.
